Statement
I make art at the intersection of creative and contemplative practice, exploring drawing as a tool of embodied attention for not only the artist, but for the viewer as well. From the transcendent to the domestic, I am interested in the way habits and rhythms of life can be understood as devotional acts within a framework of contemplative practice – a process of returning and tending to something (a drawing, a sacred text, a community) over time which necessitates an embodied, not merely intellectualized, presence. My meditation drawings are both records of such a devotional practice and tools of contemplation in their own right. From the tonal fields of a piece taken in its entirety to the particularities of small marks, the viewing experience reflects the viewer’s scale of focus.
