Through the investigation of wind, weather, light, amoebae, cosmos, and the body’s internal void, my work depicts the unseen and the intangible, providing a glimpse into some place else. Beams of light contort into forest limbs and then flicker, approaching dissolution. Foregrounded knots of intestinal sludge divide the earth and the ether. Gravity disappears in the viscous superimposition of abstracted forms.
The sublime is experienced through the unknowing expanse and wonder of the natural world. Paint and its alchemical properties conjure a similar sensation of awe and wonder. We encounter the sublime as corporal beings, simultaneously looking out to the stars and into our bellies. Skins are a two-way surface. Like a bodily membrane or film on a stagnant lake, there are currents underneath and winds above. On the surfaces themselves, light dances. My work captures this slippery, in-between dance, depicting illuminated voids and exploring interconnectedness.
